Encore Pilates Is Adulting!
This year marks 18 years since I first opened the doors of what is now Encore Pilates and Wellness in Darwin. Back then, in a tiny 3m² basement studio and under the name The Pilates Method, I had no idea what this journey would become.
I simply wanted to work for myself. I was driven by a hunger for autonomy, a need to step outside a system that didn’t reward passion, and a deep love for a movement method that had helped me heal my own chronic pain. I wanted to create a life that embodied the wellness I had fought so hard to reclaim—and to help others do the same.
What I didn’t know then was that Encore would go on to become a legacy. A pillar of the Pilates profession in the Northern Territory. A studio that stood for body autonomy, freedom of choice, and radical self-responsibility—values that still run through everything we do today.
Building Something Bigger
When my first child was born, I realised something important: I couldn’t do this alone. Not if I wanted to live well, raise a family, and keep serving my clients with integrity. So I began expanding.
In true Darwin fashion, it wasn’t easy to find qualified instructors locally. So I brought talent in from across Australia, invested in training, and aligned with reputable Pilates education providers to build a team that could uphold the standard I believed in. Over the years, I’ve travelled the world learning from the best, taught workshops nationwide, spoken at conferences, and continued to sharpen my craft—always with one mission in mind: to spread the Pilates method with depth, care, and excellence.
Answering the Call to Teach Teachers
By 2020, like many of us, I was grounded—but not silenced. Travel was no longer possible, and yet the call to educate was louder than ever. So I turned inward. I spent two years pouring everything I knew into creating my own training program: Pilates Pro Academy.
Today, we stand proud as Northern Australia’s only Reformer and Mat certification program recommended by the Pilates Association of Australia. That recognition matters—not just because it’s official, but because it ensures that the next generation of Pilates instructors are grounded in quality, ethics, and true professional standards.
This Work is Bigger Than Me
Pilates Pro Academy isn’t just a training program. It’s my legacy. It’s my thank-you note to this profession—a career that has allowed me to connect with tens of thousands of people, support healing in countless bodies, and advocate for true wellness in all its forms.
Mentoring the next wave of instructors is the most powerful way I can give back. I truly believe that Pilates has a ripple effect that stretches far beyond the studio. It changes individuals, families, communities—and yes, even the world.
